The present review is aimed to compare two AV receivers - Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A1080 vs Onkyo TX-NR686 that are meant to satisfy the needs of cinema and music lovers.

Amplifier

Considered AV receivers have the same number of channels 7.2. Regarding power, then AVENTAGE RX-A1080 has such a W/Ohm ratio - 110/8 20Hz-20KHz, 170/4 1KHz when TX-NR686 has a power of 165/6 1KHz. The THD is 0.06% for the AVENTAGE RX-A1080 but 0.08% for the TX-NR686.

Audio features

Characteristics of digital to analog converter (DAC) are different, ESS SABRE 384 KHz/32-bit for AVENTAGE RX-A1080 and VLSC 384 KHz/32-bit for the TX-NR686. HDMI signal transmission in standby mode is implemented in each of the devices. The AVENTAGE RX-A1080 can scale the input HDMI signal, unlike the TX-NR686. The HDR standard - Dolby Vision is supported by these receivers.

An ECO mode is only available for the AVENTAGE RX-A1080. Both AVENTAGE RX-A1080 and TX-NR686 can be configured using the Setup assistant.

Multichannel surround
