Amplifier

A significant difference between the receivers in the number of channels, Denon AVR-S960H has 7.2 versus 2.1 for Yamaha R-N2000A. Regarding power, then AVR-S960H has such a W/Ohm ratio - 90/8, 125/6 when R-N2000A has a power of 90/8, 145/4. The THD is 0.08% for the AVR-S960H but 0.07% for the R-N2000A. Only the R-N2000A supports Bi-amping feature. Each of the AV receivers can transmit an audio signal directly to the amplifier and bypasses any DSP processing.

Connectivity

WI-FI modules have the same characteristics: 2.4/5GHz. Rivals from our review have Bluetooth support. The Apple Music service is implemented on considered devices: AirPlay, AirPlay 2. Only the AVR-S960H provides HDMI signal transmission in standby mode. The AVR-S960H can scale the input HDMI signal, unlike the R-N2000A. Dolby Vision technology found support only on the AVR-S960H. Only the AVR-S960H supports HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC). The HDMI eARC is available only on the AVR-S960H. Of the two receivers in our comparison, HDMI CEC is present in only the AVR-S960H. These compared receivers have a built-in phono stage for connecting a vinyl player. Supported voice control technologies are identical - Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri, Josh.AI. It is also worth noting that the ECO mode is presented in each of the receivers. Both AVR-S960H and R-N2000A can be configured using the Setup assistant.

Multichannel surround

Only the AVR-S960H has a Dolby Atmos multichannel audio format support. A surround technology DTS:X is supported only by the AVR-S960H.
